Guaranteed period contract

Hi. If you apply for your terms and conditions for a specified period of your employment, are you entitled to them for that period?

If agreed in writing and that is written into the contract, then the answer is yes, it is a contract.

There may be one exception to this and that is if a company is in financial distress and faces closure in the absence of redundancy then, depending on the terms of your contract of employment, your position may be open to be made redundant.

Your contract would have to be for a fixed, guaranteed period – this is the way in which the contracts of chief executive officers or football managers are usually constructed and in the absence of a contract for an absolute guaranteed period with clauses providing for compensation in lieu, a redundancy situation could change that.
