Poor communication with solicitor

Hi. I am dealing with a solicitor on a case at the moment. However I am finding it frustratingly hard to get to talk to him . Its impossible to get him on the phone and I have to wait ages to get appointments with him. Can you tell me is this normal or should I change solicitor. Surly he could give me an hour on the phone an call me back. Micheal in Wexford.

Hi Michael, itís unfortunate that you are finding it frustrating to talk to your Solicitor and I canít tell from your question why.

My best advice is to phone his secretary and ask for an urgent appointment to meet with him Ė no itís not normal to have this problem and Iím just wondering whatís going on here?

Sometimes in the middle of a case, particularly a lawsuit, there will be periods of time in which nothing is happening and nothing is meant to happen, such as waiting for a case to come to Trial. Between the time when all Court documents are exchanged and the time the date is fixed for hearing very little can be done and perhaps Michael, you find yourself in this period but donít fully understand that itís just a waiting game.

If you are simply looking for information, then make full use of the support staff in the law firm in question. Develop a relationship with them, particularly the Solicitorís secretary because, while a Solicitor could be out in Court for long periods of time, the secretarial and back-up staff are there all of the time and usually they can answer straightforward questions from the file.

Dil adds Ė in business generally, I always find it helpful to develop a relationship with an assistant or secretary, who sometimes can answer questions far more quickly than waiting for the principal to get back to you.
