Can I make Will from Template?

Text Question (but time ran out on the programme for a live on air answer): I want to make a Will of my own however I have searched the Internet for the format and it gives only the information about making a Will. Is there such a thing as a fixed Will format? Listener in Clones

I would always advise someone to see a Solicitor about drawing up a Will so as to avoid any conflicts or disputes after you have gone.  There are number of very strict rules about writing a Will, the most important of which deal with the presence of 2 Witnesses at the same time, the relationship between the witnesses and the person making the Will (the Testator) and the precise wording of gifts.  It is possible to buy a pre-printed Will with blanks in it from Eason’s or other stationers but it is far more expensive in the long run because even if you get the procedure correct, the Probate Office usually asks for certain proof and verification that the Will was properly signed which would involve Affidavits and Declarations which would have to be prepared to prove the Will.  It is much cheaper to go to a Solicitor now and have the thing done properly first time.
