Describing policy detail in a Will

A phoned-in query – A listener was setting out a will. In the will there is an English company pension. The Irish company representative says no account number will be needed to be included in the will but the English company representative says the account number will be needed for the will. Explain who is right?

It depends on how the benefit of the pension is going to be dealt with in the will.  If this listener is willing the specific proceeds of the pension policy to a named beneficiary then it would be advisable to include the number and all details so that it can be clearly identified.

If, on the other hand, the entire estate is going to be given to one person or divided equally between everybody else then this pension benefit will be part of that estate and can be claimed by the executor on behalf of the beneficiaries.

My advice to this listener would be though, to be sure about this, the fullest details of the policy should be included just to clearly identify the product in question.
