Dental problems

I was at the Dentist last week and had a permanent bridge put in. Today they fell out. Am I entitled to have them replaced free of charge? - Tom, Raheny.

Hi Tom,

Personally I'd query this by asking the dentist why I have to pay and in a polite and business-like way ask what happened that yoy Tom have to pay.

I know how difficult it is going through a lengthy and expensive dental process and then finding out that you have to retrace your footsteps and pay for the privilege.    When you avail of certain professional services – in this case dental treatment – there is no absolute guarantee of 100% success first time.  What a dentist undertakes to do is use his or her skills to the best of their ability to give you a proper treatment.  I am not a dentist so I cannot say that the fitting of a bridge should work every time but I suspect that there may be circumstances in which despite the dentist’s best efforts that success cannot be guaranteed.   If this is the case then you will have to pay for further treatment.

The only way around this is to consult another dentist before you have the bridge refitted and ask their opinion as to whether or not the work was substandard.
