Putting ESB poles on my land

I have discovered that the ESB intend to put two poles on my property to service a bungalow being built across the road from me. Is there anything I can do? B. Tipperary Listener.

Hello B.  The ESB have a statutory right to place poles, pylons and other cable carrying supports anywhere they think is reasonably required, but subject to two important rules - firstly that you are properly notified, have the opportunity to object and the procedure for exercising that right by the ESB is properly followed, and secondly that you are entitled to compensation.

My advice is to engage with the ESB to see if they will alter their plans. If this doesn’t work,  talk to an Architect or a Consulting  Engineer and draw up proposals as to why the poles should be re-sited so as not to come on your property, and make an official submission to the ESB along these lines.  Also it would be a good idea to get in touch with your local TDs and County Councillors and have them write to the ESB making similar points and asking that the poles to be repositioned so as to minimise the problems being caused to you.
